I choose by the color and fabric I am wearing and I try to find a scent that "smells" like that color.
A few days ago I was wearing a brown silk skirt and emerald green top, so I wore an earthy scent that made me feel like walking through a forest on a summer day.
Yesterday I was wearing navy blue and gray, so I chose a straight ambergris essential oil because I always think of the blue whales when I wear it.
Today I was wearing a peacock blue silk dress, so I wore a jasmine and frangipani blend that makes me think of the peacocks in Goa, India.
So, I was just wondering what inspires you???

Re: How do you choose your scent for the day?
Sat, November 22, 2008 - 10:28 AMgood question!
I guess I would have to say, a lot of times by the weather. If its gray and rainy outside, I may put on Patchouli or Musk.
If the weather is cold and crisp, I may add in something like a touch of cinnamon/cardomon or vanilla or cocoa.
Orange is another good cooler weather scent.
Rose is good on hot days.

Re: How do you choose your scent for the day?
Sat, November 22, 2008 - 9:47 PMThat's a really interesting question...
Mostly it's a function of what I'm into generally. I find that I'm into a lot of citruses, so that's a common one right now.
Then I also have spicy favorites, like frankincense and cardamon blends.
It's hard for me to get away from my favorites, so I go back and forth between these two a lot!
For baths, it's almost always some selection of citrus.

Re: How do you choose your scent for the day?
Sun, November 23, 2008 - 2:27 PMi make my choices based upon ritual magic correspondences.
for example
Monday - Day of the Moon
Scents associated with the moon - Jasmine, Camphor, Ylang-Ylang, Sweet Birch, etc
Tuesday - Day of Mars
Scents associated with Mars - Tobacco, Leather, and alot of other scents that are not so pleasant
Wednesday - Day of Mercury
Scents associated with Mercury - Storax, Ambers, Lime, Elemi, etc
I also mix and match in other things as well. All the classical planets have elemental associations, so I mix those in as well sometimes (Weds and Thurs are AIR, so I wear lemongrass) or to a specific Purpose (Friday is associated with drawing Love, so I wear Rose, or Sandalwood, or Vanilla).

Re: How do you choose your scent for the day?
Sat, November 29, 2008 - 7:50 AMI only wish I was as poetic as Petite! I'm really haphazard about it; I just want to smell nice, so I'll grab something that I haven't worn in a while and hope for the best. -

Re: How do you choose your scent for the day?
Sat, November 29, 2008 - 4:21 PMI'm into really earthy, grassy scents these days, so I rotate between patchouli, sweetgrass, amber...scents like that. My current favorite lotion is rosemary scented, and I love that as well. Sometimes that lotion is the only scent I wear. -

Re: How do you choose your scent for the day?
Sun, November 30, 2008 - 12:16 AMIt's an intuitive approach for me..I look at bottles and visualise them in all of my being and usually I stop at one or two..or 3..then go with whatever rush I get from the visualisation...I dont get too technical on it and just go with the yum factor...

Re: How do you choose your scent for the day?
Wed, December 3, 2008 - 12:40 AMI agree! I love it how we each have our specific preferences. I absolutely don't feel dressed until I have a scent on.
Hermeticbear, I haven't heard of the correspondances before. Would you mind sharing some more on that? I LOVE the idea.
