Ok, why can't I find any chemical information on Lotus Blossom oil? I received a bottle that a friend brought back from Egypt. He gave me the perfumer's run down of wha tthe oil was good for, but I would like some confirmation, perferably scientific.
I have looked in my trusty Jeanne Rose book, Essential Oils Desk Reference and J. Lawless' Encyclopedia of Essential Oils. These are the only books I have at my disposall and after 5 web sites, I'm frustrated.
Any sources (internet or book) y'all can recommend to me?

Re: Lotus Blossom oil
Sun, January 9, 2005 - 5:53 PMThere is a genuine lotus absolute, and there is info at scents of the earth which is an online store. I've met the owner and he is reliable so it's the real thing. I have been to Egypt before, and unfortunately almost all their attars are adulterated with synthetics. So, unless your friend paid a LOT of money for this lotus, chances are it has been cut which would be upsetting if you are a natural scent purist. -

Sun, January 9, 2005 - 10:19 PMDo you have a url for Scents of the Earth, or is it just scentsof the earth.com?
As for the oil, considering the price, the source, and the consistancy/smell, it seems at the very least close to pure.
Thanks. -

Also try googling white lotus aromatics which has an article on the distilling of lotus. Sorry if I sounded negative about attars from Egypt but when I was there they were pretty icky. -

No worries, I understand totally about the warning. In this "business" one has to be ever vigilent of oil quality. -

This site might give you some info
www.naturesgift.com/essentia...htm#Lotus
Blue Lotus Absolute
Nelumbo nucifera Wildcrafted, India, Solvent Extracted
This rarest of Lotus Blossoms yields an ethereal absolute. Light, delicate in aroma, not as floral as the more common Pink or White Lotus Blossoms. but its effect on the spirit is amazing. An "must have" for anyone working with the chakras, doing energy work, or using the oils as a part of their spiritual journey.
Pink Lotus Absolute
Nelumbo nuciferaWildcrafted, India (Tamil), Solvent Extracted
How can the same species of flower offer two so different absolutes? Initially, or undiluted, the Pink Lotus absolute has a spicy crispness, that becomes more floral the more we dilute it.
White Lotus Absolute
We've been waiting for almost a year for this lovely to arrive. Less pungent and floral than our Pink Lotus, and not as light and crisp as the Blue, White Lotus has a clarity and smoothness all its own. It couples a subtle aroma with a powerful emotional and spiritual effect.

Sun, February 27, 2005 - 3:37 AMCheck out Lotus Blossom Absolute, the pink in particular on Google.. thats the real thing and here are lots of sources. Magdalena Lightwich here, I make and blend my own stuff, and this one is pricy and very sweet. I am a true perfumer, soon will be offering my stuff here for sale, but this oil is definitely one of the ecletic true florals and because so few appreciate em, I have worked with other things for a while.. but maybe next order I will get some and play with it too!Good Luck -

Sun, January 8, 2006 - 9:19 AM"I've been looking for BLUE lotus extract-" ...
This is an old thread, but I've just joined this tribe and I wanted to reply to this one.
The place where I work sells blue lotus. www.naturesgift.com
Their site has a very in-depth discussion of this oil -- and all the others they sell. I've seen them mentioned in one of the posts above, which is cool. They sell the best available oils, it's the real deal.

Re: Lotus Blossom oil
Mon, July 4, 2005 - 12:13 PMthere is a gentleman in in Sherman Oaks Calif, who is known for the quality of his essential oils. John Steele of Lifetree Aromatix. He travels extensively and is known for overseeing all phases of production for the essential oils he sells to make sure they are unadulturated and of the highest quality. His selection of oils is large.
He does sell a lotus absolute that comes from india. I have ordered from him in the past and find that he is very reliable. His products are not cheap---but if you want to know what a true lotus, jasmine, or rose absloute is i would recommend him highly. He's kinda old fasioned and doesn't have a website however if you do a web search he is easily found.
Cheers! -
