I have some success with adding alcohol to a base oil of jojoba. It still separates somewhat, but the resin is somewhat liquified, at least enough to use in a roll-on...

Probably best to consult a professional perfumer, or a pro perfumer's book.

Perfumer's Apprentice (?) in Santa Cruz might be a good place to check out. I think they're open by appointment (?)

Let me know what you find out!

I once bought a roll-on vial of pure amber resin and another of pure sandalwood resin - both in jojoba oil from a little store in Berkeley on Telegraph Avenue. After time, the resins have somewhat blended but they do pretty much sit there so I just have to shake the bottle before I use it. Even though they don't "blend", the smell is still so beautiful and strong.

This is pure Benzoin that I'm using from a reputable source. I've blended with jojoba and sesame and it sits in the bottom.
I understand that pure EO usually blends nicely and does not separate.

Perhaps there is no way around this with the resins other than heating the blend before use. (?)

Thanks for your reply.

?

if you are using a true EO from the plant, and putting it in a carrier oil (i like jojoba the best) there is no separation. if you buy an "essential oil" that is a synthetic then there will be separation from your carrier oil. another reason for "separation" is that sometimes depending on how the EO is processed, there may be some particulate matter present, which may settle to the bottom of the bottle.

i do think synthetics have their place esp with the skyrocketing cost of some oils, or to prevent animal cruelty.

hope this helps----

Greetings~

Is there a trick to making blends with yummy resins like benzoin, myrrh and frankincense so that the resin doesn't just separate and settle? When mixing resins do you prefer jojoba, grapeseed, sweet almond, hemp or sesame oil? I'm wondering if there is a carrier oil that is better suited to the resinous oils? Thanks for shedding some light on the subject! I'm addicted to these luxurious, intoxicating resins and am looking for more ways to use them.

Merci~
