i want to make bath salts, using peppermint and eucalyptus oils. Do i need to add a carrier oil to the epson salt and sea salt? or can i just buy the essential oils without the carrier oil?
This is to be a gift for a friend, so any imput would be great.

Wed, March 26, 2008 - 9:01 PMVegetable oils help emulsify the essential oils, and without them there is more of a tendency for the oils to float on top of the water and then they stick to your skin which can cause irritation and burning. WIth some of the milder oils like lavender it might not matter but I would probably err on the side of caution.
I have stupidly put oils in hot baths only to have my skin turn beet red, though luckily nothing super serious.
A good friend went overboard with a very hot bath and some real cinnamon oil and actually ended up in the emergency room... not to scare you or anything.... -

I have always added a few drops of the essential oils, undiluted, with no problem. As long as you use common sense and check to see that the fragrance oils you want to use are okay for using on the skin and add it a drop at a time, checking to see when it's enough fragrance, (it usually doesn't take much) I think it should be fine.
