Re: violet parma essential oil--do they make it????
Thu, July 17, 2008 - 5:10 PMI think we had an old archived post on this.... maybe someone can find it. Coincidence, I was actually in Parma, Italy last week and smelled some great "Parma Violet," a lovely fake of course.
Anyway, there is a true violet leaf absolute that smells intensely green/fresh/cucumbery.
Every reputable source indicates that there is no such thing as a true natural violet flower absolute, since it went out of commercial production almost a hundred years ago. There are very nice compounded scents which have some natural flowers mixed with synthetic ionones which smell very close to fresh violets.
Unfortunately, many places claim to have "natural" flower oils and they just don't exist (gardenia is another). It is hard to say if they were misled by their suppliers or they are making claims based on misperceptions or not.
