the main thing is that youre the only person that ever mentioned that, I have about 100grams of Iris or orris root oil, whicht has in pure a realy nasty scent, ever tryed to dilute it? in 10 to 5 percentics, its a delicious Violetscnet, I know it , I have it and I make soap with it , soap that is loved by many people,........try it it was used in the 19th century for making violetperfumes. Here you can get it in 5% dilution at the oil dealer, and it works out fine, the best way is to get some root and make a liquer out of it this take 2 times a week 1 teaspoon in water releeves stress symptom!

Krys, Are you talking about some type of Orris root? This is also type of iris root, but to me it smells nothing like fresh violets, at least as a raw butter. Or do you mean a different iris root butter?

What is known as Viola di Parma, is in the best cases the essential oil of an Iris called: (Iris germanica var. florentina, Syn. Iris pallida) this oil has teh scent of Violets and is very rare, It takes up to 5 years to dry the rhizoma and then it is groundes and distilled, after destilation they have the so called Concrete de Iris (Viola) which is like a butter, from this is with the help of alcohol the essential oil removed. The oil is used as a Flowery bouqet in perfume industry and can be used for stressreliev, painreliev, and against nightmares....and so on. when I got my first teeth as a baby my mom got me a Violet root piece on which I should bite, it kills the pain in the mouth, and helps babys with the toothing. best regards Krys

I think we had an old archived post on this.... maybe someone can find it. Coincidence, I was actually in Parma, Italy last week and smelled some great "Parma Violet," a lovely fake of course. Anyway, there is a true violet leaf absolute that smells intensely green/fresh/cucumbery. Every reputable source indicates that there is no such thing as a true natural violet flower absolute, since it went out of commercial production almost a hundred years ago. There are very nice compounded scents which have some natural flowers mixed with synthetic ionones which smell very close to fresh violets. Unfortunately, many places claim to have "natural" flower oils and they just don't exist (gardenia is another). It is hard to say if they were misled by their suppliers or they are making claims based on misperceptions or not.

Wow A...you didnt know?..violet is just devine..there are white ones too but they dont smell quite as strong as the purple...when I was at my fathers land the other day I picked one and smelt it and went ahhhhhhhhh...gorgeous..

I notice the violet absolute is more spendy..what is the diff between the 2?..Wow the tuberose is costly..am sure it is amazing...I bought some carnation oil 5% it is devine...well worth it..
