I just bought some to add to a recipe, but I've never used it before. Does anyone have experience with it? I hear it's good for heartbreak.

Re: Lily of the valley E.O.
Wed, October 22, 2008 - 9:00 AMfrom what I understand, many flowers scent material is so volatile and fleeting, that even if you could separate it out, it evaporates so fast, that before it can be bottled, it is gone. -

Re: Lily of the valley E.O.
Wed, October 22, 2008 - 6:00 PMThere are a number of flowers that just do not lend themselves to either a steam (e.o.) or other solvent-type extraction. For various technical reasons they are too fragile or they rot or so on. So Lily of the Valley is one. It is primarily synthetic, though nicer ones often have "compounded" formulas that probably include naturals like ylang, jasmine, and other florals.
Sadly, a lot of other favorites are synthetic-only, like wisteria.
That is not to say that I see them unilaterally as "bad" since many of these partially synthetic florals smell really incredible. -

Fri, October 24, 2008 - 11:48 PMI wonder if they can / use a gas chromatograph on the live flowers to sort out what's in their real scents, then dupe those?
