So I was reading the post about smells reminding us of people we love. My mother has always told me that it is very important for people to always stick to one perfume, for their whole lives, for this reason. She thinks that everyone should have a signature scent so that the smell is associated to that person.
What do you guys think?

Re: Smells and memory
Thu, January 15, 2009 - 2:32 PMScents can remind you of various people and events for a number of reasons (easy to google studies.)
Sticking to one 'signature' scent your whole life would be a mistake for a few reasons. One. your tastes change over time, as do your surrounding situations. Two, you would deny yourself a lot of varied pleasure and discovery.
Just my 2 c's

Re: Smells and memory
Sat, January 17, 2009 - 12:01 PMyes, the sense of smell is connected to the deepest (& oldest, in evolutionary terms) parts of the brain ~ smells can not only provoke powerful associated memories but also be psychic triggers
love all-ways,

Re: Smells and memory
Sat, January 17, 2009 - 7:22 PMOne of the symptoms of true Alzheimer's is that your sense of smell dims...
and I recently read an article in Details magazine about an adult man with ADHD whose sense of smell became much more keen (even too much so ) when they put him on Adderal.
Weird...

Re: Smells and memory
Thu, January 22, 2009 - 12:34 PMFor myself I would get bored too. But I remember my grandmother used Skin so soft from avon just about every day, When she died my mother put a cotton ball with that on it tucked into her coffin at the wake. Every one thought her spirit was hanging around because it smelled like her.
