What is your signature scent?

topic posted Sun, April 29, 2007 - 9:48 PM by  Petite
I wear either Nag Champa or sandalwood/vanilla almost everyday. One of my co-workers said he knew I had just been in the elevator because it smelled like Champa and he loves it!!

There is a guard who works in the lobby that I love because he always wears Bakhur. It smells so clean, sexy, mysterious and elegant. Everyday, I say HI to him and then I just have to hug him so I can get a big whiff and start my day out right! It makes us both laugh.

What about you?

Patchouli. everyone knows i've been there.

i've learned how to wear it so its now overpowering, and apparantly it is a complete compliment to my body chemistry due to the compliments i get with it, people actually seemed surprised sometimes, lol..

i use kiss my face pathcouli shower wash/lotion also. its scented nicely also, not heavy.

Right now I would have to say Amber. Just bought some Krshna Amber online and made a solid perfume with jojoba and beeswax. Love it. Getting ready to try other ambers and mixing them together.

I'd have to say jasmine and jasmine based scents work really well on me. Not too sweet.
Certain verbena/citrus scents like Aqui de Parma and creamy vanillas such as the ones by Compitor d' Sud all flatter my chemistry and theres one I adore by Annik Goutal--but I'm not telling because everyone goes crazy for it and it's mine, mine, mine! Once a friend gave me a tiny bottle of a sicilian lemon perfume from the region and the scent was sheer heaven--it's all gone now and I don't know what it was or how to get more--I'd love to know!!!

My signature scent for 20 odd years would have to be Clinique Aromatics Elixir. This scent reacts with my body chemisty in such a way that I have had girlfriends ask what it was, buy it, and then be disappointed that it was not the same on them.

I have men and women come up to me all the time after a long day ant work and tell me how good I smell. Once an 18 year old boy (i was 48 at the time) followed me around Tower Records for about 15-20 minutes working up the never to ask me what it was so he could get it for his girlriend.

I make my own scents mostly citus and grassey scents. but I have never gotten any responces like what I get with Elixir.

I'm definitely a patchouli girl, have been since I was 14 (in 1973). Instead of using the straight oil as I used to when I was in my teens & early twenties, I soften it a bit with sandalwood & vanilla or floral notes in the spring & summer (a little rose & jasmine). I also add grain alcohol and up it in an atomizer or spay bottle rather than use the oil straight. the scent still lasts a long time and isn't overpowering like the oil can be.

up it in an atomizer or spay bottle<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

i might have to try that. i have learned to wear it by drops. i always use one small drop and then do the swish and rub. but since each bottle i get is different, sometimes i miss.

i have a couple of indoor fountains that i put the oil in the water and it scents the room.

My current favorite is Frankincense, Cardamon, a bit of Cepes or Oud (for muskiness) and amber...

      i love reading this thread!
      my signature scents change often
      lately it's been pine needle

if i were to go to the proverbial island
and take one and only one essential oil
      it would probably be orange

I think I've posted on this thread a million times, but here goes another...

I got this great scent called Woodstock mixed in a lotion when I visited Missoula, Montana last week...can't tell what all is in it (definitely patchouli!), but I love the smell. I will definitely be getting more of that stuff...:-) I think I will be wearing it everyday for awhile.

I just added rock rose to the mix (tho sometimes on its own, too!) It's heady!

I annointed a few others at a couple of parties over the weekend with this mix, and we were all practically falling in love!

      mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
      ;)

Mine was -until it was discontinued (this seems to happen to me all the time!) - Laura Ashley No. 1 I've never had so many compliments about how I smell as when I wore this. This is a description...

"Laura Ashley No. 1 is a subtle, delicate scent that reverberates with the essence of white flowers narcissus, jasmine, orchid, and gardenia."

...but it actually smelled more subtle and light than this sounds, flowery but not sweet or powdery like so many floral perfumes, a bit more like a fresh and softly scented English garden. I still yearn after this perfume (and actually wrote the company about it, and apparently I'm not alone in wanting it to return...I have no idea why they don't bring it back, unless one of the ingredients became particularly expensive). Sadly, the word is that even sealed bottles that can still be bought online have lost most of their top notes so aren't worth the high prices being asked. Sigh....

I've created 4 scents to work at various times.

Ginger + Lime (the current favorite)
    a spicy fig + cardamom + nutmeg
    Orange + vanilla + almond
and a floral rose and amber mix.

it just occured to me that most are in the yummy-that-smells-delicious category.

Catherine Deneuve had the most beautiful, warm, feminine fragrance back in the '80s (called, of course, "Deneuve") - whenever I wore it, I had tons of compliments. However, it was badly marketed, and hence disappeared. I've never found anything to replace it. Nowadays, I have this lovely little fragrance store I go to in Vancouver (BC) that carries obscure fragrances - I'm wearing Alamut (although it will never "stick" to me, which drives me crazy) and, in particular, Aoud Velvet, which almost (almost...) replaces Deneuve for me.

I tend to love amber and sandle wood, but have been using a lot of patchouili, orenge, and ginger.
I find that amber is a smell that I get a lot of complaments (from pretty men), where as patchouli just seems to let people know that "I've been here" (kind of like a big cat marking it's territory.) The orange and ginger make people want to smell me and taste me... almost like a cookie or cup of tea. I like the thought of being considered sweat enough to eat!

I've been using keffir lime a lot, but mostly for baths...

Lately I've been wondering what to mix with chocolate... I didn't think I'd like the chocolate, but it's been more complex on my skin than I expected... must be the DNA! ;)

I have a perfume from Oshadi called "Perfection". It is sandlewood, rose, lavender, and jasmine. It is the same perfume my beloved step-mother wears, and whenever I put it on I feel absolutely uplifted. It has good associations for me.

The one I wear when I want to delight the sniffers of others is Aura Cacia's orange and patchouli spray. I dislike straight patchouli, but the orange cuts it down nicely. I was wearing this once and a male friend (who is very clean-cut and non-hippie) told me I smelled fantastic.

I adore Cola. I have a pure cola oil that's just like a freshly popped soda, and L'Aromarine has a divine Cola cologne that's great, too. Balenciaga had a mens cologne that's been out of circulation for quite some time now, it was out of this world, the perfect walk in the woods.

I've been wearing Tuscany per Donna by Estee Lauder for years. It's really one of my favorite scents- I usually get compliments when I wear it, and I like that hardly anyone else wears it, so it's not common. :)
I always worry that they'll discontinue it one of these days and then my nose will be miserable, lol

I wore Hanae Mori or Chanel No. 5 for years and I still love both of them, but my go to now is a mixed blend of Philosophy's Amazing Grace & Baby Grace. It's a really nice feeling to get a hug from someone and be told" you smell soooooo good". Makes me think I have found my "signature scent".
