i'm not sure i can make this thread and get a straight answer, but... i'll try anyway. does anyone have any suggestions for capturing the scent of opium smoke, aside from... smoking opium? i've tried a few perfumes and incense blends that were supposed to smell like opium but they're never even slightly close. would essential oil from papaver somniferum carry the same scent?

i'm rarely an opium smoker, and i don't even think the aroma is loved by many people besides myself, but for me, the scent is absolutely ambrosial.

if you can find an essential oil of the plant. I have never heard of one.

Part of the smell of opium is from that it is being burned. I think all those other things titled opium, are not trying to capture the scent, but rather the imagination of the wearer, summoning up dark, illicit activities, chemical induced dreams, exotic imagery (as most opium images are historicaly associated with China and Chinese immigrants, running opium dens in various "red light" districts of the late 19th century).

If you did find the essential oil of papver somniferum, I don't think it would smell like what you are thinking, but then, it may be opium itself, as it is extracted from that plant.

    Hi there,

your biggest problem will be the fact that there is no essential oil of papaver somniferum, on one hand it is too poisonous and on the other hand not legal!

To solve your problems I read a lot of the texts I have and I found some interesting things that may be helpful for you!

1: try to write down which asociations you have withh this certain scent, then imagine colors that mach, write it al down.
2: on a base of : Oakmoss, Violetroot, Magnolia flower and Abelmoschus oil you can create this expirience, Opium scent is based on a strong animalic and earth bound scent, this you can get by mixing for example moschusseed, Patchouly, Oakmoss and Nard oil with each other.. the magic of opium scent is the mix of these animalistic and earth scents with light flowers and hypnotising blossoms, like MAgnolia (champaca, Flower) Lotus, Frangipani, YlangYlang, Jasmine and Damas. Rose.

Use your nose and your inner Vision and this will bring you the best result you can get...make it your self because so you can be shure to have the one and only mixture, and write it down!

3: if you have one that is nearly like you want it then freeze it deep, set it in the sun for some time....let it mazerate, so it will develope to a new and unique scent

    I hope this helps you

    Blessings and Thousands positive thougts

Another good question for CB I Hate perfume - he may already have this, saving oyu the work & expense of buying all the ingredients. Don't know if he has it, but he might.

He has scents like: "Coney Island Beach, 1966"... so you get my drift...
