Lavender

it smells like... well like, one of my favorite colors - Purple - well like a light clean purple ;-)

mY bLOG
http://people.tribe.net/chaz/blog/4c376ed7-e19c-4290-b199-fcb1250f3df6

Lavender oil is a liquid most often distilled from the purple blossoms of the lavender plant, or also known as lavendula officinalis.

It is with good reason why lavender oil is one of the most favorite essential oils, as it has wonderful qualities and also smells great. It is a calming, relaxing oil, which combats stress and crisis, while the antiseptic properties helps with cold, flu and other ailments. It is excellent for asthma and migraines. Apart from that it supports and has a healing effect, while preventing scarring and balancing.

Lavender Love Drops spiritual supplies are often claimed to engender passion and loving kindness

The Knot Garden (Pics)
http://www.mysticfamiliar.com/library/knot_Garden_herbs/lavender_lavandula_angustifolia_stoechas.htm

The Lavender family – Lavandula Angustifolia, Lavandula Stoechas

When Nicholas Culpepper wrote his famous herbal he concluded that lavender was so well known that there was no need to describe it – and I tend to agree.

But for the sake of anyone who hasn’t had the pleasure of being introduced to this charming plant, it is of shrubby habit, invariably has a grey-green tinge to its narrow, highly aromatic foliage and characteristically bears spikes of oil-rich flowers in shades of purple, white, carmine and... well... lavender!

TISRATI FOR SPIRITUAL AWAKENING

The head is encircled with a Lavender necklace to form a special gemstone tool, known as a tisrati. Wearing a Lavender tisrati helps clarify the mind, heighten awareness, and encourage spiritual awakening. By promoting the healthy realignment of the skull bones, the tisrati can also relieve headache pain.

INDICATIONS:

When you wish to do either of the following – Improve your mental clarity and Heighten your Spiritual Awareness and Experiences

Lavandula Stoechas

The Greeks and Romans used it to perfume their bathwater, Tuscans carried it as a talisman to protect against the evil eye, ancient Egyptians employed it in the mummification process and in North Africa it was thought to offer protection against domestic violence. It is also believed to be the ‘Spikenard’ of the bible, used by Mary Magdalene to wash Jesus’ feet.

It’s also been used as protection against *witchcraft, being fashioned into garters for Irish brides for this purpose and burnt on St John’s Eve (24th June) bonfires in Spain and Portugal for its anti-witch qualities. (Wow didn't know that, but intuited it)

its calmative effects – was often used to perfume birthing rooms where it was also thought to stimulate ‘emergence’.

In the ‘floral language of love’ it traditionally urges silence, whereas to dream of lavender is said to predict a reunion. Somewhat confusingly it is variously said to act as an attractant of suitors, as an aphrodisiac and as a protection for chastity!

It has had, of course, countless cosmetic, perfumery and household uses over the centuries, from gentle face-wash to strewing herb for floors, where it would both perfume the air as it was trodden underfoot and deter parasites of mice and men.

Medicinally, lavender’s action on both body and mind is tranquil. It is used to soothe upset stomachs, toothache, neuralgia and headaches as well as to calm the nerves, treat insomnia and ease anxiety. I wonder if it is co-incidental then that Eurostar were recently offering peach and lavender clafoutis as a trans-channel pudding?

THIRD EYE

Ray 4 ** Ajna (Third Eye) - Lavender Oil and Lavender Flower Essence are blended to with Ray 4 to activate the Ajna, Pituitary Gland and all related Ray 4 areas. The Lavender in the oil and flower essence balance the entire body while the supporting the Ajna Center to balance the entire energy body. Lavender supports one in either stimulating or calming depending on the individuals need.

Lavender in the Cayce Readings
http://meridianinstitute.com/echerb/Files/1lavend.html

Edgar Cayce recommended lavender primarily as an aromatic for use in fume baths and massage oil. Several readings address the holistic aspects of lavender use by describing its role in attuning the physical, mental and spiritual.

EFFECTS:
In this technique, you encircle your head with a Lavender necklace and form it into a special gemstone-therapy tool, known as a tisrati.

Wearing a Lavender tisrati enhances the flow of energy and information between your brow and crown chakras. This augmented flow helps to clarify your mind, heighten your awareness, and encourage spiritual awakening. In most people today, the connection between the brow and crown chakras is closed or inhibited. To ensure that this connection is open and ready for the tisrati, you first prepare these chakras by placing the Lavender on your crown chakra.

Wearing a Lavender tisrati also creates an opening for additional life force to flow into all your chakras. This brings healing energy to your physical body and to all your inner aspects, while improving their myriad interactions.

A tisrati focuses Lavender's aligning effects on your head and the bones of your skull. By encouraging a subtle readjustment of your skull bones, a Lavender tisrati can help relieve pressure in the head and open the area to more life force.

Another good one from Sandra Tsing Loh:

Cinna-Paper
Hold onto your sandwiches--this really IS the greatest thing since sliced bread!

This is Sandra Tsing Loh with the Loh Down on Science

and with a flavorful new way to pack your lunch.

Fresh bread is great--if only it would STAY fresh. Instead, it goes bad after a few days, and eventually you've got The Creature That Ate My Brain growing in your breadbox.

The culprit is rhyzopusstolonifer fungus--a-k-a, mold.

But researchers at Spain's University of Zaragosa have found a way keep Wonder bread from sporting a not-so-Wonderful green, furry look.

Their solution? A kind of wax paper containing cinnamaldehyde -- an antimicrobial chemical distilled from cinnamon bark. Cinnamaldehyde can kill all kinds of organisms, from mosquito larvae to MOLD. Plus, the cinna-paper packaging is medically safe and environmentally friendly.

When the scientists wrapped bread in wax paper containing six percent cinnamon oil--which is nearly all cinnamaldehyde--it kept bread mold-free for up to ten days.

By contrast, wrapped in Grandma's plain ol' wax paper, bread became a carnival of mold in just three days.

Of course, my brilliant South Dakotan mother-in-law Bernice FREEZES her bread but research scientists. . . didn't ask her! Ah well. Next time.

So I was reading the post about smells reminding us of people we love. My mother has always told me that it is very important for people to always stick to one perfume, for their whole lives, for this reason. She thinks that everyone should have a signature scent so that the smell is associated to that person.

What do you guys think?

From Sandra Tsing Loh's "the Loh Down on Science":

Got nightmares? Hey! Have you tried sleeping in a bed of roses?
Sleep researchers know dreams can be influenced by things we hear or feel while sleeping. You know--you dream you're in the shower, wake up to find your roof is leaking.
So Boris Stuck and Michael Schredl of University Hospital Mannheim in Germany wondered: Can sweet smells give you sweet dreams as well?

They recruited fifteen volunteers to. . . nap. As their subjects snoozed, the researchers administered one of two scents through a tube--either the pleasant bouquet of roses, or the nasty stench of rotten eggs.

Then, the sleepers were awakened and asked if their dreams were positive or negative.

With the scent of roses wafting through their nostrils? Snoozers reported pleasant dreams. Rotten eggs? Dreams were downers.

Conclusion? What we smell while asleep can affect the emotional content of our dreams. Scientists hope the technique can help people who suffer from nightmares.

Now if only the new cat would stop peeing in my bed! Uh oh! Was that TOO much information? Never mind.

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had some exotic perfume oil recipes they could share with me? , or know of any good sources to find some?
I really like old formulations.....kind of like from "ancient times"; hope that doesn't sound weird....does anyone also like the same?

any help would be appreciated, thanks!

i'm not sure i can make this thread and get a straight answer, but... i'll try anyway. does anyone have any suggestions for capturing the scent of opium smoke, aside from... smoking opium? i've tried a few perfumes and incense blends that were supposed to smell like opium but they're never even slightly close. would essential oil from papaver somniferum carry the same scent?

i'm rarely an opium smoker, and i don't even think the aroma is loved by many people besides myself, but for me, the scent is absolutely ambrosial.

Greetings~

Is there a trick to making blends with yummy resins like benzoin, myrrh and frankincense so that the resin doesn't just separate and settle? When mixing resins do you prefer jojoba, grapeseed, sweet almond, hemp or sesame oil? I'm wondering if there is a carrier oil that is better suited to the resinous oils? Thanks for shedding some light on the subject! I'm addicted to these luxurious, intoxicating resins and am looking for more ways to use them.

Merci~

Hello Everyone,
There are 3 stores i'm thinking of ordering from:

1. www.newdirectionsaromatics.com
2. www.mountainroseherbs.com
3. libertynatural.com

Any reviews about them?your faves from these suppliers?quality of oils?service?which EO not to buy from them due to low/weak aroma odor or other reasons ?any other stores with good prices and quality?
organic vs wildcrafted vs cultivated?do they have GCMS results ?
I hope they are not made from low quality crops and haven't been sitting on their shelves for years
Thank you any advice will help
How do you choose your scent for the day?

I choose by the color and fabric I am wearing and I try to find a scent that "smells" like that color.

A few days ago I was wearing a brown silk skirt and emerald green top, so I wore an earthy scent that made me feel like walking through a forest on a summer day.
Yesterday I was wearing navy blue and gray, so I chose a straight ambergris essential oil because I always think of the blue whales when I wear it.
Today I was wearing a peacock blue silk dress, so I wore a jasmine and frangipani blend that makes me think of the peacocks in Goa, India.

So, I was just wondering what inspires you???

Has anyone tried any of the Caldey fragrances besides the lavender?

I am very curious, they are not too expensive; but I am not a fan of lavender, so I am wondering who has tried the others, or where they migth be reviewed...

"The monks have to support themselves by their own labour. Traditionally this has been done by farming three hundred acres given over to oats, barley and a Jersey herd. The cows wander around unrestrained and are responsible for the yoghurt, clotted cream and particularly delicious ice cream, which you should all try in the tearoom. A more recent and less likely venture is the perfumery, where you can witness the surreal spectacle of silent monks poring over their bubbling apparatus. Caldey's indigenous gorse is the key ingredient in the fragrances, which are exported worldwide, and include Caldey perfume, Caldey "for men", and Caldey talcum powder. There are frequent sailings from Tenby (01834 842296 for details).?"

Hey all,
At this year's Burn I kept smelling the same incredibly intoxicating scent on people. The only way I can describe it is that it reminded me of amber and benzoin. Kinda had that same heady, make-you-hungry, simultaneously-sweet-and-musky quality... A little floral, but only in that mildly spicy tigerlilly way. I think it's probably some kind of resin. Smelled it most @ Cyphertown, Entheon, and Nexus... I know scents seem to come and go in popularity, (kinda like Palo Santo is dominating the incense/smudging market right now...), so I'm hoping one of you lovely scent-aholics will be able to clue me in to what this delicious mystery scent is!
Thanks!!!

In Afghanistan, a young man tries to persuade local growers to grow roses in an ancient garden for perfume, instead of opium for heroin. The techniques for both have a lot in common:

Sandalwood

People here may already know, it is well known, but I thought I would post just in case, most sandalwood you get and I do mean MOST if not ALL is not real.
Real sandalwood is extreeeemely expensive and precious, it is controlled by governments in Asia. The tree is endangered, and can't be farmed because of the very specific and delicate balances and conditions required, it is actually a parasitic tree and it takes at least 50 years before it is grown enough to get a good harvest/mateiral out of it. People have been killed to get the stuff, like when elephants are hunted for their ivory and people defend them. That is not to say there are not good imitations out there, that are made from a blend of other natural and organic materials to mimic the fragrance. Most of it is kept in India for spiritual use, it is traditional and therapeutic, it centers the mind yet seems to encourage the ability to step outside of it.
I do a blog on my perfume interest and ended up doing a fair amount of research into this, that is why I have become aware. If you care to read my entry on it, it's at www.indieperfumes.com, scroll down to see the entry on Sandalwood. Also on Indian aromatic materials, they have amazing things we cannot even get over here. I am hoping in the future that those will become more available to us. Unfortunately, at this time, the Indian perfume makers who have a tradition of thousands of years are being kind of taken over by imitations of Western mass market scents, because that's what their young and rich want right now. Until they wake up one day soon, and realize how great their own tradition is. Maybe in ten years...hopefully less...
Ironically, if you want to know what real sandalwood is like, you have to try the very expensive couture fragrances, like Creed Santal, they have a special exclusive deal with a temple in Sri Lanka, who sells them real sandalwood. They are actually still making their perfume the "old" way, the last ones of that type of perfumer doing this. But they are very very expensive. You can try their stuff at the places that sell it, and they like to talk about it to you, too, so it's pretty educational...

I'm trying to figure out what kind of base oil to use to make my own. The bottles sold can't possibly be solid essential oil, so i'm thinking something like plain vegetable oil as the base with a blend of essential oils. The last one I bought was very oily and definitely didn't have any alcohol in it.
I already have the bottles and the reeds...

Hello! I'm helping a friend get her Aromatherapy Blog up and running. She'd like to focus on sharing educational information, recipes, oil profiles, etc.

I'm looking for some blogs that aren't overly promotional and have some great info so that I can help her set a good tone/voice for internet users.

Does anyone have particular favorite blogs?

cleaning bottles

Hi there, I'm new here. Can someone tell me the proper way to clean those cobalt blue bottles properly before i pour in my blend? currently i just scald them in the hot shower. as the bottle opening is small, i notice inside the bottle don't really dries up. so i poke an orange stick with a a cotton bud to clean the residue. once it looks dry, i pour in my blend only to discover 2 weeks later there's a layer of like thicker substance and some fluffy moldy looking tuff (which i think was from my cotton bud).

is there a proper way to clean the bottles before use. and what if i finished my blend and want to recycle the bottle?

thank you

want to distill some mint and lavender?

I've got a huge trashbag of freshly harvested mint. The lavender will be ready in about 3 weeks.

Is anyone interested in making essential oils? Has a distiller and wants to split the harvest?

The best massage oil I've ever had was from these ingredients and homemade.

I think it would be fun to do this not only for the oil, but just learning to do something new and interesting.

I can do this during the week or a weekend before Memorial day. I have a super sweet place to do this with lots of wildlife around.... Just like going camping.... except I live here!

PM me for details.

I wear either Nag Champa or sandalwood/vanilla almost everyday. One of my co-workers said he knew I had just been in the elevator because it smelled like Champa and he loves it!!

There is a guard who works in the lobby that I love because he always wears Bakhur. It smells so clean, sexy, mysterious and elegant. Everyday, I say HI to him and then I just have to hug him so I can get a big whiff and start my day out right! It makes us both laugh.

so im doing an essential oil extraction at home for my first time. im using patchouli from my garden and probably bluebasil from a friend of mine. im only using a stainless steel pot, vegetable steamer, and the lid to put ice on top. how long should i simmer on low? and what do u recommend, dried or fresh herb? when im finished i know dark contianers are suggested but if there unavailable can i place it in a clear jar and keep it in the dark? ive become very interested in oils for massage and would like to know amyones experience with this. what type of base oil is best? can i use vegetable oil if other alternatives arent available? what would u recommend for that special sweetheart? and one last thing...i have dreads, can i use the leftover water in my tighting spray? i would assume yes, but just in case...
thanks anyone for any information!

Unfortunately, I can't find her anymore on EBay, so I was hoping someone here could help.

San Jose BPAL meetup? Sunday the 17th? Anyone?

I've been batting this around the various BPAL (Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab) fan forums, but thought I'd mention it here as well: I'm hosting a meetup on Sunday, February 17, between noon and 3pm, at the Doubletree San Jose Hotel. Which is at 2050 Gateway Place, near the intersection of Airport Parkway and Guadalupe Parkway.
This is the hotel's website: http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/JOSE-DT-Doubletree-Hotel-San-Jose-California/index.do

The BPAL meetup is taking place in conjunction with Pantheacon -- a pagan con at the hotel -- but **the meetup is not an official P-con event, and it will not cost you anything to attend.** Just in case you, or the tribe mods, were wondering.

We'll have lots of free perfume samples, free caffeine, and free food if you get there early enough. Also special party favors for the first five guests. ::steeples hands and looks over glasses simultaneously::

If you'd like to know more, leave me a comment here, or write me at latzoni@ hotmail.com or latzonik@ yahoo.com . Thanks!

At the Arboretum

So I went to the LA Arboretum the other day, mostly to see the LA Mycological Society's annual mushroom fair (I had joined a foray the day before, to help gather specimens in the mountains nearby.)

After checking out the mushroom fair, I wandered into a few of the Arboretum's greenhouses. One of them was the Begonia House. I don't really care much for begonias, but I went in anyway.

I was glad I did. Toward the back of the greenhouse was an interesting plant that looked like a vine version of a pitcher plant. Of course I had to see if its flowers smelled at all. I didn't really expect anything, since begonia don't usually smell, and I presumed this was a relative.

But it did smell. Something faint and sweet and green, bordering on woody. I was fascinated, and kept sniffing it, trying to memorize it, maybe to create something like it later. I wondered what made the smell - the flower itself seemed full of water.

I was just about to leave, and no one was there. So I gently tipped one of the greenish flowers over, and spilled some of its flower-water onto my hand. It seemed like just water, with just the slightest hint of an aloe gel feel. I rubbed it in and sniffed. Nothing. Oh well.

I went on strolling around the Arboretum, and met a friend for lunch. After we ordered, I noticed some sort of scent. Something vaguely sweet. I'd had my hands folded in front of my chin at the table - that scent was me! Or rather, the flower-water from the pitcher plant vine had dried down to that amazing scent I'd tried to memorize! Wow! I put my hand out, and my friend said he could smell it too.

Eau du pitcher plant. That would be an interesting aromatic portrait... :P

i'm helping a friend blend a flea spray. i'm hoping to get an idea on what percentage (it's an oil-base) of the mix should be eo's....we were thinking around 2%, but i'm not sure if that's correct.

Formulating Clay-Based Face Masks & Other Cosmetics?

Hey guys, clay-based facial masks are becoming more and more popular with men (particularly the metrosexual variety! *G*), so........I was wondering if anyone might be aware of any books that I could turn to in order to research how various facial masks are made, and what all of the various ingredients, as well as various clays, do or impart onto one's face. ;o)

I'd also like to learn how to make soft soaps, shampoo, hair condityioner and hand/body lotions (my mom was given a wonderful rose-scented lotion that made my skin feel amazing, from Victoria's Secret, but...because she has such a hightened sense of smell she couldn't stand having it around the house, so she threw it away!). Anyone know of any references that I could consult in my quest?
Chakra Journey with Essential Oils~Denver

Just over a year ago, my Guides encouraged me to blend several of my practices to create this meditation to acknowledge the source of blockages in my chakras and shift my perception by holding back the veil....so to speak.
Particular essential oils immediately effect the limbic system in our brain and can reach areas where toxins are stored from emotional traumas we have experienced in the past. By traveling to "receptors" that can only be reached through our olfactory sense, essential oils are a pathway to healing ourselves.
Several years ago I began channeling aromatic blends at the encouragement of life circumstances and the ethers. Not every scenario that calls for essential oils is indexed in books...and we all do afterall, respond to things differently.
My passion is to make custom blends for individuals...but several years ago a dear friend asked for me to develope a chakra set to be used for Reiki...and so this series was created.
I was simutaneously involved with an apprenticeship in the Tarot...And when I was able to acknowledge I had a blockage in my throat, I asked for guidance and the meditation came to be.
These are individual journeys...the scents themselves will open things up to you...I am here to guide you and support you through the process.
For the next few months I will be doing sessions for donations in exchange of gathering individual imput about the journey.
If you are interested in participating in one of these sessions with small groups of people please contact me.

Caldo's "Moss" Cologne?

Hey guys, a while back something really crappy happened to be at our local Target, one afternoon! Well, for the longest time they were selling a new line of mens' products under the brand name of Caldo--I have never seen this for sale anywhere else! Anyway, I found them selling, under this line, an *amazing* cologne that smelled soooooo sexy, called either "oakmoss" or "moss". So, time when by, and I noticed that their selection dwindled until I noticed they had two "Tester Bottles" on display, and no new bottles for purchase. Well, one day I finally had some money to afford a bottle, so I asked a sales person about this, and he brought along one of his "higher ups" when they told me that they didn't have it in stock anymore, and couldn't get it in either! (I could never even find it at Target.Com) So, they took both bottles away (one of which was 100% full!) and threw them away right in front of me, rather than offering to allow me to have one (or even buy one at a reduced price)--I could hear the bottles break as they delibberately threw them into a trash can so that they shattered. I was sooooo pissed!!! That was one of the most amazing cologne that I've ever seen (and *I'm* picky)! I just wish I knew if there was anything I could do about this. *sigh* I wonder if Caldo has a site anywhere (I haven't been able to find one), or if I could contact someone at Target.Com, or even my own local Target?

ISO "Fancy" Bottle Suppliers...

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone, here, knows of any fabulous glass boittle suppliers? I am a brewer of religious oils, balms, potions and salves as well as ointments, etc. So........I am searching for lovely bottles for my formulas, between 8 to 12 ounces. Now, because of my tastes, I am looking for something elegent, or "fancy"--without being cheesy or simple (such as beaker-shaped bottled, of stupid-looking yellow sun-motif bottles!)--in coloured glass that comes in each color of the spectrum. Presently, I am searching for a lovely ruby-red glass bottle to hold a formula I've developed for protection. Anyone know of any that'd be up to my darned picky standards?! ;o) Ypu'll see an example of one bottle I own that's similar to what I desire (save that it's a cruet and far too small, as it only holds about 3-5 ounces) on my slide show over at my Blog's Profile Page: http:MacMorrighan.CovenSpace.Com A friend of mine once recommended those Egyptian glass perfume bottles, but they seem so small and damned fragile--I'd be afraid of breaking them or spilling their contents; while, another friend of mine pointed me towards this site with some fabulous "pill boxes" that I simply wish were available in LARGE containers so that I could use them to contain my ointments: http://www.gaelsong.com/product/365/Accessories_Other (click on "Enameled Pill Box")!

[Herb] Jar Label Design!

Hey guys, here's something of an "odd" question:

I was wondering if anyone has any advice for designinf labels (as in software, perhaps) for my jars of herbs? I was thinking of a nice, ornate, boarder for each label, with the "common name" and "botanical name" written in a lovely font, with images of the the plant, itself, asthetically placed around the words-- such as leaves, flower tops, roots, trees, seeds, etc. But, these images will ne somewhat "faded", or "lightened" for asthetic purposes. Anyone got any ideas of advice? I can "see" what I want to accomplish, but it's all a matter of finding what is required to "manifest" those results. Ya' know what I mean? ;o) The reason why I ask is because I've found some lovely bottles, and I think I should extend more "loveliness" to their labels, as well...

Take care,
Wade

Hi Everyone who loves the smells of the natural world, & finds some healing from this special place. Id like to post a topic relative to the ingestion of particularly flower waters but also other botanicals. The ingestion of essential oils is a bit controversial, some might have taken some mint oil to calm a tummy, or eaten lozenges for a sore throat with eucalyptus and menthol, but the hydrosols and waters are a much safer way to ingest these wonderful sacred plants extracts. Iv been taking rose water in my water daily & have noticed how calming and beautiful life seems when under it's spell about 15ml to 750ml. When I were younger I developed an appreciation for the natural world, and loved the spring/summer months so much due to the locallly growing jasmine flowers which adding 2 flowers to a bottle of water is so refreshing, this was passed onto friends and has since become a thing we refered to as Princess water (Violet water is a winter habit of mine 2 flowers also) . Using hydrosols and waters is very similar and Iv been experimenting with the few well known ones, ie rose, orange flower, chamomile, & about to try hyssop ( on order).
I guess im wondering if anyone else has similar experience/s or other suggestions, I love to surround my day with botanical smells as much as I can & since water is a necesscity, It's so yummyily practical to include this for myself & want to share with other sensory fiends. lol :)

Ok, why can't I find any chemical information on Lotus Blossom oil? I received a bottle that a friend brought back from Egypt. He gave me the perfumer's run down of wha tthe oil was good for, but I would like some confirmation, perferably scientific.

I have looked in my trusty Jeanne Rose book, Essential Oils Desk Reference and J. Lawless' Encyclopedia of Essential Oils. These are the only books I have at my disposall and after 5 web sites, I'm frustrated.

Any sources (internet or book) y'all can recommend to me?

Hey all,

While I've always had an interest in Aromatherapy and Perfumery, Jitterbug Perfume really opened my eyes to the power of scent. Since then, I've realized more and more how effected by scent I am. Now I'm ready to start experimenting with essential oils etc, but I am not quite sure where to begin. I have been trying to find a good "beginner's kit" or something of the sort, but I am really at a loss. Not sure what I should be looking for. Any tips? I would be most grateful.

Thanks!

Super Cheap Potion Supplies?

Hey guys, one of the key-ingredients for a Potion I want to blend-- an Employment Potion-- is Sandalwood Oil. Anywya, I only have about $15 (I'm reserving $5 for s/h) to spend on Essential Oils, plus a carrier (something happened to my bottle of sweet almost, 'cause it's no longer in my apothacarey!)-- this budget also includes the shipping fee. So, I was wondering if anyone knows of REALLY CHEAP essential oils suppliers I could do business with? The folks I usually buy oils from-- Isis Books & Gifts [http://www.isisbooks.Com]-- are asking for $12/dram of Sandalwood oil! So, I thought to myself, "Surely this is a drastic mark up per dram! After all, the Dryad Design idol of my beloved Morrighan that I bought from Ancient Ways for $45 is being sold at Isis for $90!!!!!!"

Anyway, I also need some Bay (Laurel) Oil, for "winning" and "victory"...though, I've got some ground cinnamon for success, some sea salt for "money" (our word, "salary", comes from a Roman expression for salt). Though, I'd like to add at least two other fragrances, if I can: Now, I immediately thought of baybarry ('cause, "a baybery candle burned down to the socket, always puts money in the pocket!"), but...I don't want a potion that smells *too* piney and herbally, as well as woodsy! So, I may be looking for two other possible ingredients! Anyone else care to recommend anything they can think of-- particularly with some herb-lore attached-- centered around money and actual "work" or "employment" to some extent? ;o)

Heck, on top of that I need to buy two candles (I only buy my ritual candles from SomaLuna.Com!), and at least one sheet of parchment. I just hope I can afford all this for the spell I have planned-- jeeze, it sucks not having the supplies on hand when you REQUIRE them for use!

I tried scoring a job once before without any sort of a Magickal aid, and I made a promice to myself that I'd never do it again without one!

Take Care,
Wade

PS: You know, as commonly used as Sandalwood Essential Oil is-- particularly in aromatherapy-- you'd think it's be skags cheaper than what I've seen it!

PPS: Please, *no one* recommend AzureGreen as a source. I *refuse* to purchase oils from them, because, despite their claims to being "Essential Oils" (at their quantity and prices), they clearly only sale fragrence oils!

PPPS: Also, if anyone's gonna' say, "Well, you might have to just bite the bullet!", don't bother responding. ;o) That's defeatist! Besides, there's ALWAYS a choice, or an option! You just have to find it, first.

Add it to your bath, or add it to your face & body oils - it's very rejuvenating to the skin, and a nice scent.

Otherwise - it's very expensive to buy in a readymade oil or lotion (Weleda, $15-18; Dr. Harushka, about $24+.)

Which essential oils or perfumes would mimic pheromones the most natural way? They are getting sold synthetically and I wonder, why not make your own ones, naturally.

What scents would you use to mimic pheromones?

Jitterbug Perfume

I don't know if any of you are fans of Tom Robbins and have read THE best book of all time, Jitterbug Perfume, but I need your help.....

I am re-reading the book, and I have endeavored to actually try to make the perfume. It calls for
Lemon Citron
Jasmine
Ambergris
Extract of beet pollen

I have lemon essential oil and jasmine, but can anyone recommend a good source for ambergris and what in the world would you use for extract of beet pollen (yes, BEET, as in the vegetable)????

Any suggestions are GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thank you!!

Can anyone give some suggestions for an alcohol free base for making perfume? This is my first time delving into this and I'd like to give perfume making a try, but I want to do it sans alcohol. ; )

Also...could I use an oil base instead? Is there a way to infuse a scent into a carrier oil...then add water to dilute it so it isn't as oily?

Forgive my ignorance! lol This is all new to me!
i have found the brand tulasi
for incense
to be superior to others

i am very sensitive to adulterated fragrance
so perhaps other brands are wonderful, too

because tulasi causes me no "reactions,"
i've not investigated any further

I have read Jitterbug perfume by tom robbins, perfume by patrick suskind, a history of the senses, other books would be different guides to aromatherapy which I am also very inspired by also, but does anyone have any recommendations?

After my latest base cream, I experimented with neem oil which has such a strong smell. The best comment Iv gottn after adding EO's was It smells like Turkish delight!!. Iam wondering if any of you guys have ever worked with neem oil and what have you used with it to complement the natural fragrance of the neem? So next time I may have a few things up my sleve. I used Eo's of Neroli, rose geranium, ylang ylang, and Benzoin. The decoction used for the base was Marshmallow, so it's slightly sweet also.

A Hem Lily Incense

Hey guys, I just bought a lovely box of A Hem Lily Incense-- it smells divine! According to the Hindu shop owners the Kali Ma particularly enjoys heady-floral scents [eg. Rose, Jasmine, Vanilla, etc.!]; incidentally, Ganesha adores Sandalwood. Anyway, it hit me that such a scent would make a wonderful incense for the Rites of Spring! Anyone happen to know how such a Lily Incense might be constructed naturally? ;o)

Take Care,
Wade

Making an Amber perfume

I received a vial of amber perfume, with the resin still in it and
just can't get enough of it. In fact, I got it 3 weeks ago and it's almost
gone!

I must make more!

I have some resin and was wondering what would be a good
carrier.

shanks!!
